Heradsbygda Care Center | Ringerike Municipality – Hønefoss

From Vision to Reality – The Bathroom of the Future in Everyday Use

At Bano, our mission is to design products that make daily life easier for people with mobility challenges – and for the caregivers who support them. That’s why we highly value opportunities to engage with healthcare professionals who truly understand the needs of users. Learning how our solutions impact health, well-being, and workplace dynamics provides us with invaluable insights.

One facility where our solutions are currently in use is Heradsbygda Care Center in Hønefoss, operated by Ringerike Municipality. Completed in 2021, the center offers long-term stays and day services for individuals living with dementia. It also serves as the base for the local home care service. The facility includes 64 patient rooms across four dementia wards and four somatic care wards.

Bathrooms of the Future – Supplied by Bano Prefab

For Heradsbygda Care Center, Bano Prefab – part of the Bano Group – delivered prefabricated bathroom pods. These are manufactured in our factory and transported as fully assembled units directly to the construction site. This approach reduces carbon emissions, cuts construction costs, and ensures both high quality and optimal functionality. Our bathroom solutions are flexible and well-suited for housing projects, hotels, healthcare institutions, and student accommodations alike.

A First-Hand Look Inside Heradsbygda Care Center

To gain a deeper understanding of how our solutions perform in real-life settings, we spoke with Nikolina Bukumirovic (28), a healthcare assistant at Heradsbygda Care Center. With eight years of experience in the healthcare sector, she was happy to share her perspective.

We chose Bano because their solutions are truly outstanding – they make our everyday work significantly easier! – Nikolina, healthcare assistant

Why did you choose Bano’s bathroom solutions?

“We chose Bano because their solutions are truly outstanding – they make our everyday work significantly easier. The bathrooms are highly functional, both for the residents and for us as staff,” Nikolina explains.

How have the solutions impacted your work environment and the quality of care?

“Our workdays have become much easier. There are fewer heavy lifts and awkward working positions. That means better ergonomics for staff and safer environments for residents. Many of the features promote independence for residents – especially the grab bars and the height-adjustable sinks and toilets. It creates a sense of safety and dignity.”

She adds that in her ward – which focuses on somatic care – many patients are bedridden, meaning care is often delivered in their rooms. Even so, the bathrooms are well-designed for comfort and accessibility when needed.

Which Bano products are in use?

“We use a range of products including the reversible toilet with electric height adjustment, height-adjustable sink, shower seat, support rails, shower shelf, mirror, wall-mounted toilet brush, and tall storage cabinet. The ability to adapt the height to each individual user has made a huge difference in our daily routines.”

How do the bathrooms support hygiene and infection control?

“Hygiene is always a top priority for us. The bathroom setup supports good hygiene, but it’s also very much about the attitudes and routines of the staff. Hygiene is not just about the physical infrastructure – it’s about good health and dignity.”

Would you recommend Bano’s bathroom solutions to others?

Absolutely! I would definitely recommend Bano’s products to other nursing homes and care institutions. They are fantastic and easy to use.”

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Nikolina and the team at Heradsbygda Care Center for sharing their valuable experiences. Your feedback helps us grow – and inspires us to keep developing innovative solutions that truly make a difference, every single day.
